How effective was the Truman Doctrine at stopping communism?

The Truman Doctrine did not stop communism, but sought to stop the spread of communism. It failed. After making the Doctrine, China became a communist nation, followed by much of Southeast Asia and eventually Cuba and parts of Africa.
