Anti Depressants? Which one?
It wouldn't be the medications causing your weight gain, but it could be that when you were severely depressed, you just didn't have much of an appetite, and now that you're feeling much better, your appetite has returned. Weight regulation really is a matter of calories in versus calories burned. If you eat more than your body needs, you'll gain weight. If you take in less than your body needs, you'll lose weight. I've never met a person that didn't work on. You might want to call your doctor and see if he can recommend a dietitian who might sit down with you and review your diet. If you're eating a healthy overall balanced diet consisting of high quality protein (fish, baked chicken), veggies (especially fresh veggies), and go easy on the carbohydrates (no slabs of cake or pie, no donuts, no empty-calorie soft drinks or beer), and cut WAY back on fats, your weight will come off over time. But you need to consciously pay attention to what you're eating and how much. You can't eat a healthy lunch, and then sit down at 3 PM and eat a bag of chocolate, or have the baked fish and salad for supper and then follow it with a big slice of pie and ice cream. Also, try to become more physically active. You don't have to go into training to defeat the South African Soccer Team, but you should get out and take long walks every day, or take up a hobby that requires some physical effort such as tending to a garden or perhaps go fishing in the country where you have to walk a half-mile to get to the pond. You'll get some exercise, and you'll also catch some delicious fish to eat. And you won't have a refrigerator nearby filled with snacks and soft drinks! By consciously adjusting your eating and exercise habits, avoiding junk food, your weight should come off.
