Dying my fake blond hair red...please help.?

I have a natural brownish hair (with copper tones in it) that i have gotten dyed blonde for the past 2 years by a great hair stylist. The problem is i want to do something different and go red, like a ginger/auburn type of red (i'm thinking ashlee simpson haircolour). Unfortunantly i don't have $200 to spend at a hair salon, being a student, so i was wondering if someone could tell me the steps i could take to achieve this look. And possible suggest what hair colours to use, i was thinking clairol perfect 10 in the ginger snap, but is this the first step i would use? Help please....i'm hopeless with this stuff haha
