What was the issue at hand in the case of McCulloch v. Maryland?

Can you explain it in Layman's terms please. I've looked on the internet, and read in my history book and Im having a hard time understanding it. So if you could please just state simply the issue of the court case I would greatly appreciate it! Thank you!
